Ibidunni Ojikuku
Them, Vox; Soloist, Songs of Resilience & She Carries the Fire
A frequent performer in the Pacific Northwest, Soprano Ibidunni Ojikutu is known for having a strong foundation in traditional and contemporary repertoire and has studied extensively in both areas.
Ms.Ojikutu made her Seattle Opera debut as Strawberry Woman in their 2011 production of Porgy and Bess. “Opera News” said of her performance, “Ibidunni Ojikutu’s turn as Strawberry Woman was as charming as the lilt in her voice.”
Recent credits include Elle in The Vox Project, Rising Waters Collective’s updated and immersive production of La voix humaine. Credits with Seattle Opera include 2nd Lady/The Magic Flute, creating the role of Mabel Lewis in the world premier of Jubilee, 2nd Wife/Market Woman in the world premiere of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Neighbor 1/Ensemble (X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X), and Serena (Porgy and Bess). Ms. Ojikutu has also had the privilege of working with Portland Opera on such projects as The Central Park Five (Antron’s Mother), and as a featured soloist in Sparkling Through the Years: A Diamond Anniversary Celebration.
An enthusiastic recitalist, Ms. Ojikutu’s recital projects with collaborative pianist, Rebecca Mañalac, include “Songs From The American Experience”. This multi-faceted program celebrates the music of American composers, featuring Samuel Barber, George Gershwin, Moses Hogan, Nkeiru Okoye, Rogers & Hammerstein, and more.
Upcoming projects include "Sounds of The Sound", an appearance at the 30th annual African American Art Song Alliance conference, and a "homecoming" concert on Juneteenth in Brooks County, GA.
