About the event

Songs of Resilience brings Sheila Silver’s powerful new song cycle to life, giving voice to individuals confronting social, political, and humanitarian crises. From a Pulitzer-winning journalist witnessing hunger in Sudan, to a mother discovering banned books in Florida, to a Palestinian American writer and a Turkish student navigating systemic oppression, each song captures courage, conscience, and moral reckoning. The evening offers an immersive musical experience that illuminates empathy, witness, and the enduring power of human resistance.

Sheila Silver is a leading voice in American opera and classical music, blending lyrical beauty with intellectual rigor. Her works, including the Seattle-premiered opera A Thousand Splendid Suns, create deeply human narratives that engage contemporary social and ethical issues, shaping the landscape of chamber opera and vocal music in the United States.

Featuring Rising Waters Collective founders Julia Benzinger, Holly Boaz, Ibidunni Ojikutu, and Lucy Weber.

Songs of Resiliance is a new commission, and we’re raising…
